What is Clipline?

Clipline is a clipboard you share: copy something on one computer and paste it on another, or hand it to your team. Text, code and files stay for 15 minutes, then they are gone.

$ curl clipline.roedlach.tirol/s/aB3-x9Z Clipline session aB3-x9Z, 12 min left # TYPE AGE ENTRY 1 file 6m deploy-notes.pdf (48 KB) 2 text 2m ssh [email protected] $ curl clipline.roedlach.tirol/s/aB3-x9Z/last ssh [email protected] $ ip a | curl -T - clipline.roedlach.tirol/s/aB3-x9Z Saved as entry 3 of session aB3-x9Z.
A notification pops up when someone adds an entry. Copy puts it on your clipboard. Read the Windows guide The tray menu sends your clipboard and lists the recent entries; notifications work like on Windows. Read the Linux desktop guide Pipe text in on one machine, pull it out on another – on Linux, Windows and servers. Read the Terminal guide Nothing to install: any machine with curl reads a session and sends output back to it. Read the curl guide

What you can do

  • Move things between your own machines. Copy a command on your laptop, paste it on the server you are logged into.
  • Share with your team. Everything you add goes to your current team, and everyone in it sees it right away.
  • Keep something to yourself. Mark an entry as private and only you can see it, on all your devices.
  • Share with people who have no account. Start a session: anyone with its code can add and fetch entries for 15 minutes.
  • Work on consoles without copy and paste. A session gives you short curl commands to type there, to fetch entries and to send output back – see VM consoles.

Pick your way in

You want to… Use
Get notified about new entries and send your clipboard with a click Windows, macOS or Linux desktop app
Work in a terminal or on a server without a desktop Terminal tool clipline
Fetch something on a machine where you can't install anything curl
Type something into a VM console that has no copy and paste A session with curl
Just use a browser The clipboard page

All clients talk to the same clipboard, so you can mix them freely: send from the Windows tray app, fetch with curl on a server.

Why entries disappear

Clipline is for passing things on, not for storing them. Every entry and every uploaded file is deleted 15 minutes after it was added. That keeps the list short and means a password you shared doesn't stay around. If you need something longer, add it again.
