Quick start

From sign-up to your first entry on a second computer takes about five minutes.

1. Sign in

Register or log in. You get a personal team right away; your entries go there until you create or join another team.

2. Add your first entry

Open the clipboard, paste some text into the box and click Add text. It shows up in the list below, together with a Copy button. For files, drop them anywhere on the page.

Entries stay for 15 minutes. The list refreshes by itself, so new entries from others appear without reloading.

3. Install a client

Open Downloads. The app for the system you are using is marked as recommended.

  • Windows: run clipline-setup.exe and choose the tray app, the terminal tool or both.
  • macOS: open Clipline.dmg and drag Clipline into Applications.
  • Linux desktop: install the .deb; it contains the tray app and the terminal tool.
  • Linux server: install the smaller clipline package, it needs no desktop.

4. Create an API token

The clients sign in with a token instead of your password. Open API Tokens, enter a name such as "Laptop", tick read and create and click Create. Copy the token: it is shown only once.

With two-factor authentication on, the code is asked for only when you log in in the browser. The clients and curl use the token and keep working without it.

5. Connect the client

  • Tray app: on first start it asks for the server address and the token.
  • Terminal: run clipline --config.

Now copy something on one machine and watch it arrive on the other.
