Sessions

A session lets people and machines without an account use Clipline for 15 minutes. You start it, pass on its code, and everyone with the code can add and fetch entries – in a browser or with curl.

When to use a session

  • A colleague from another company needs a file from you.
  • You want to get a link onto your phone, where you aren't logged in.
  • A VM console or server has no copy and paste and no client – see VM consoles.

Start a session

On the clipboard, click the dark Terminal session button at the top right, next to the page title. Your running sessions are listed next to it. The session page opens with:

  • The code, large, for example aB3-x9Z, and how long the session still runs.
  • Show link large, Copy link – the link is https://clipline.roedlach.tirol/s/aB3-x9Z. It opens the session in any browser, and lists it in curl.
  • In a terminal – the curl commands for this session, in both directions: from here to the terminal, and from the terminal to here. The eye icon shows a command large, for typing it off the screen.
  • Your running sessions – if you have several, the one you are in is highlighted; click another to switch.
  • The input box and the entries of the session.

Everything you add on the session page belongs to the session, not to your team.

Entry numbers

Every entry of a session gets a number: the dark square in front of it. The numbers count up in the order things were added and never change, so curl https://clipline.roedlach.tirol/s/aB3-x9Z/2 always means the same entry. Each entry also shows its own curl command.

Join a session

Open the link. Without an account you go straight to the session; there is nothing to sign up for. You can also type the code on the login page under Session-Code.

Go back

The page title shows where you are, e.g. Clipboard of Ops » Session aB3-x9Z. Click Clipboard of Ops to go back to your own clipboard. The session keeps running; on the clipboard page it is listed next to the Terminal session button, so you can return.

End a session early

When you are done, end the session yourself instead of waiting for the 15 minutes:

  • End session on the session page, or
  • the × on a session in the list next to Terminal session (it appears when you point at the session; on touch screens it is always there).

After asking once, the code stops working right away, and all entries and files of the session are deleted – for everyone who was in it. Only the person who started a session can end it.

When it ends

After 15 minutes the code stops working and the entries of the session are deleted. The link then shows "Session-Code is invalid or expired", and curl answers 404 Session code is invalid or expired. Start a new session if you need more time.

Everyone who knows the code can read and add to the session. Don't put passwords into a session you share with more people than necessary. Entries marked Only me stay with you: the others in the session don't see them, neither in the browser nor in curl. For a password that only one person should get, tick Burn after reading: the first copy deletes it, in the browser or with curl.
