Terminal tool

clipline brings the clipboard into your shell: pipe text in, pull it out on another machine, upload files from a server. The same commands work on Linux and Windows.

Terminal
anna@laptop $ echo "ssh [email protected]" | clipline Saved entry to your current team. deploy@server $ clipline pull --latest --print ssh [email protected] deploy@server $ clipline push backup.tar.gz Uploaded backup.tar.gz as entry to your current team. deploy@server $
Pipe text in on one machine, pull it out on another – on Linux, Windows and servers.

Install

System How
Linux desktop Included in the Linux desktop package, see Linux desktop
Linux server The clipline package from Downloads: sudo apt install ./clipline_*_all.deb. It needs no desktop.
Windows Tick terminal tool in clipline-setup.exe, see Windows
macOS and others The Python zip under Other systems on Downloads, needs Python 3

Connect

clipline --config

It asks for the server URL (https://clipline.roedlach.tirol) and an API token with read and create.

Send: push

echo "ssh [email protected]" | clipline # piped text
clipline push "some text" # text as argument
clipline push report.pdf photo.jpg # files
clipline push --clipboard # whatever is on your clipboard
clipline push --private secret.env # only visible to you
echo "$TOKEN" | clipline push --burn # deleted by the first copy (text only)
clipline push -t Ops notes.txt # to the team "Ops"

Fetch: pull

clipline # choose an entry, copy it to the clipboard
clipline pull --latest # the newest entry, no questions
clipline pull -l > note.txt # into a file
clipline pull -l --print # print instead of copying
clipline pull -o ~/Downloads # where files are saved

Without --latest you get a list to choose from: type to filter, ↑ ↓ to move, Enter to pick, Esc to cancel. With fzf installed it uses that, with a preview.

Text goes to your clipboard; over SSH and on servers without a clipboard it is printed instead. Files are downloaded into the current folder.

A burn-after-reading entry is listed as 🔥 Burn after reading. Picking it (or --latest when it is the newest) fetches the text once and deletes it for everyone; if someone was faster, you get Already copied by someone else.

Teams

Command What it does
