Change log

What changed in Clipline, newest first.

2026-11-06

  • Updates in the apps: the tray apps on Windows, Linux and macOS check once a day whether the server has a newer version and offer to install it: Install, Later or Skip this version. Check for updates… in the menu checks right away. Nothing is installed without your click. See Windows, Linux and macOS
  • The clipline terminal tool mentions a newer version once a day, only in an interactive terminal
  • Send to a person: choose someone from your teams under For on the page, under Send to in the tray apps, or with clipline push --to anna, and only the two of you see the entry – also with burn after reading. See Send to a person
  • Send as in the tray apps replaces the Send as private checkbox: Clipboard – only me, Files – only me… and, new, Clipboard – burn after reading. Each applies to that one send only; Send clipboard and middle-click always send a normal entry

2026-11-05

  • Burn after reading: tick it when you add a text, and the first copy deletes it – on the web page, in the clients and with curl (…/s/{code}?burn, clipline push --burn). Until then nobody sees the text, not even you. See Burn after reading

  • Entries marked Only me that you add to a session are no longer shown to the others in it

  • Links to uploaded files work only as long as the entry exists: once it expires, is deleted or its session ends, the link answers 404. Deleting a file entry deletes the file right away

  • A page left open on an ended session can't add to it any more

  • Entries from the API and curl can be up to 100 MB, text up to a million characters; longer text sent with curl is saved as a file

  • Session codes come from a cryptographically secure random generator

2026-10-26

  • New macOS app for the menu bar: notifications with Copy, send the clipboard with an option-click or by dropping files on the icon, pause and per-team mute, like on Windows and Linux. Download it from Downloads.

2026-10-20

  • New clipboard page

    • One input box for text and files: drop files anywhere on the page, Ctrl+V anywhere pastes (screenshots too), several files at once with a progress bar, Ctrl+Enter adds
    • One main button per entry (Copy or Download), "Copied" right on the button, how long each entry stays, private entries hidden until revealed, delete asks first
    • The eye icon shows any entry or command large, for typing it by hand
  • Sessions for terminals without copy and paste

    • Short address /s/{code}: the share link, and the list in curl
    • Entries of a session have fixed numbers: curl …/s/{code}/2, …/last
    • Send from the terminal without an account: cmd | curl -T - …/s/{code}, curl -T file …/s/{code}/
    • Terminal session at the top right of the clipboard starts one; running sessions are listed next to it
    • End a session early: End session on its page, or the × on its pill – deletes its entries and files right away
    • The session page has an "In a terminal" box with all commands, and every entry shows its own
  • New guide: VM consoles without copy and paste

  • Documentation: a new sidebar section Without installation with the command line (curl) and the VM console guide

  • New documentation: one page per client, illustrations, and search with Ctrl K or /

  • Fetch entries with curl, no client needed: list, latest and entry/{n} for sessions (no account) and with an API token

  • Sessions are explained on the clipboard page; a session shows its share link and curl commands

  • The Downloads page has a "Don't want to install a client?" section

  • Fixed uploading files inside a session

  • API errors are JSON even without Accept: application/json (no redirect to the login page)

2026-10-17

  • Windows clients come as one installer (clipline-setup.exe)
    • Choose the tray app, the terminal tool (added to your PATH) or both; run it again to change that
    • Updates installs of the previous version in place
  • Downloads page: buttons and install commands line up; the app for your system is recommended
